Col. Layton will bring 36 years of law enforcement experience to the job of Sheriff. Among the issues he'll focus on include:
Fighting Gangs
As Sheriff, Col. Layton will build on his experience as the leader of the Regional Gang and Intelligence Unit to continue the fight against dangerous gangs. He’ll enhance the Sheriff’s Department’s gang intelligence team within the Marion County Jail, which tracks down valuable information about gang activity in our community.
Protecting Our Children
More than 1,200 registered sex and violent offenders live and work in Marion County’s neighborhoods. The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is responsible for tracking and monitoring these offenders. As Sheriff, John Layton is committed to protecting our kids and our families. Col. Layton will be vigilant, to ensure these offenders don’t strike again.
